This B1 Business English lesson is all about how to get a promotion and what helps or stops career progress at work.
Your B1 ESL students will explore useful vocabulary and phrases to talk about jobs, responsibilities, performance, and workplace behaviour. Through engaging activities, learners will discuss what makes a good employee, how to impress a manager, and what common mistakes can stop people from getting promoted.
Students will practise speaking through ranking tasks, debates, and realistic workplace scenarios where they give advice and share opinions about promotion opportunities. They will also read and analyse an article and reflect on real-life tips.
These activities help students build confidence in speaking while connecting English learning to real career experiences. Fun discussions, practical tasks, and structured exercises make this lesson a great way to develop Business English skills, practise giving advice, and understand how to succeed in the workplace.
As with all adult lesson plans on ESL Pals, this lesson includes a practical homework task to reinforce learning. Students are encouraged to complete exercises that extend the lesson, helping them consolidate vocabulary, practise reading, and reflect on the topic.
