ESL Lesson Plan: Shopping Malls: Trends

This advanced ESL lesson covers business trends. The class uses the interesting topic of shopping malls and a great video to explore how trends affect businesses.  

This ESL business trends lesson starts off with a fun discussion of trends followed by a detailed vocabulary exercise. Next, there is a reading exercise where ESL learners study how to identify business trends. After reading that article, there are a series of discussion questions. 

This ESL business trends lesson plan continues to explore the trends through another short reading. This time ESL students read about 2 top trends of the last decade, then they have to speak about another 6 trends - this is a great speaking task!

Afterwards, the participants will analyze the video in detail. Firstly, they will study a series of different quotes taken from the video which focus on the rise of the mall. Then, ESL learners will complete a vocabulary exercise before discussing the fall of the mall. 

Finally, there is an idioms section where students have to define idioms, make sentences with them, before answering a series of questions. This is great practice for advanced ESL learners!
