This C1/C2 ESL lesson focuses on the topic “Cars vs Public Transport: Which is Better?”, helping students discuss and evaluate different forms of transport in modern life.

Learners explore real-world issues such as commuting, traffic congestion, car ownership, environmental impact, and the role of public transport in cities. They also consider broader social themes, including accessibility, social equality, sustainability, and the future of urban mobility.

Students learn and use key vocabulary related to transport and society, such as congestion, carbon footprint, accessibility, overreliance, inclusive, and sustainable, as well as useful idioms and phrases for expressing opinions, comparing ideas, and justifying arguments.

Through discussion tasks, debates, true/false opinion statements, and problem-solving activities, students practise giving detailed reasons, weighing up advantages and disadvantages, and expressing nuanced opinions. They also develop confidence in using more complex language to argue, agree, and disagree naturally.

This lesson is ideal for C1/C2 learners who are developing fluency and accuracy while engaging with challenging, real-world topics and improving their ability to discuss abstract ideas and justify opinions in clear, advanced English.
